New Hair, New House, and a Season of Big Change.

I can’t believe that it’s been two months since I’ve written a blog post. I have had a few people ask me when I’m going to start again and I really hope that this is the time–because I love this blogging space so much.

Since I have last written, there has been a lot going on. There are a lot of new changes happening in my life right now–both good but also hard. Since my last post, my sweet grandmother passed away and went to be with the Lord. While it has been really hard to accept the fact that she’s not around anymore, it has been such a sweet time of remembering her and thanking God for the legacy that she left behind. Furthermore, in the last week, a dear, dear friend and mentor passed away unexpectedly and suddenly. She was just amazing. Seasons of change that revolve around the loss of a loved one are some of the most difficult to understand, process, and know how to continue on with everyday life. But, I believe that God is good and He carries us through the hardest of times with the grace and peace that only He can provide. If you are going through a season of loss or change in this way–you’re not alone and I would love to pray for you.

Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted”

I don’t write all of that to depress anyone or to ask for pity or sympathy–but to remind you that life is a constant ebb and flow of good times and hard times. It’s ok to have seasons of struggle or difficulty adjusting to stages of life–but you don’t have to do that alone.

As for the good times, I do have a couple of exciting changes to tell you about! Firstly, I chopped off my hair! It’s been such a nice change and these hot, humid, sticky summer months in Oklahoma aren’t nearly as bad with short hair. I can see myself having hair like this for a while.

Secondly, I bought a house! I’ve been moved in and settled into my new place for a few weeks now and I love it! I have some home blog posts planned and will share those with you soon, but here are some images of little things that are my stamp throughout the house. I have a couple of house projects that are still ongoing and I’m so excited to share the finished result!

Hi There, It’s Been a While.

In case you noticed, I’ve been away from the blog for a while. April hit me like a ton of bricks and I, honestly, lost all urgency and desire to blog. But that’s ok because I’ve been too busy just living life this past month–and oh, it was such a good month.

I became an aunt again. TWICE. There are two new little guys in my family, Wolf and Jack, and they’re just some of the sweetest things ever. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again but being an aunt, to now six little kiddos, is one of the best things ever and I can’t even begin to describe that kind of love. So, welcome to the family little guys–Aunt Amy loves you so much.

I went on a weekend camping trip with a couple of girl friends and it was such an amazing weekend. And when I say camping–I mean CAMPING. I’m thinking about writing a post about it eventually but my favorite parts of the trip were being out of cellular coverage for three days, away from distractions, being out in nature, and spending quality time with friends.

This month was full of work, commitments, and a lot of behind the scene things. It was also a time of reflection for me to think about life, personal areas needing growth, and the mission behind my blog. As much as I love what I’m doing, sometimes I get a little frustrated with myself regarding the content I’m putting out there. I learned VERY quickly that my goal of three posts a week was definitely not sustainable for my lifestyle–and that may have contributed to my lack of wanting to write in April. Now that I’m getting back into the swing of things, I think that I will try to post two times a week (as life allows) and my desire is to make them more meaningful and intentional. Blog posts will be published again on Tuesdays and Thursdays, during the weeks that I am able to work on content.

See you soon in some more blog posts!

Not Your Average Valentine’s Day Movies

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you have a wonderful day and that you know how much you are loved! Today’s post is a fun one and great if you plan to stay at home tonight. Sometimes there’s nothing more relaxing than having a movie night at home. When I think about Valentine’s Day movies, I automatically think chick-flicks. However, there are a few movies I really like that aren’t necessarily chick-flicks but are still pretty funny and revolve around the “love” theme. If you are looking for some not so typical movie suggestions, these are for you!

Napoleon Dynamite (2004)

images-1

I bet you didn’t see this one coming, haha! I can’t believe this movie came out 14 years ago! This movie is so funny, so quotable, and I think this will be a classic for years to come. Napoleon Dynamite is about an awkward teen, Napoleon, his crazy family, steak, tots, and puffy sleeves. Plus, you can’t forget the Kip and LaFawnduh story line–they’re basically soul mates.

Austenland (2013)

Unknown

Jane Austen fans, unite! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this movie and it still makes me laugh. Austenland is about a modern-day Pride and Prejudice obsessed woman, named Jane, who risks her savings and goes to a Jane Austen theme park for a week to live in the role of a Jane Austen-based character. There are some great one-liners in this movie. Such a funny one to watch!

On the Line (2001)

511TAGXYP3L

Nothing like a good ol’ throwback to the early 2000s! One the Line is a movie about Ad Man Kevin and how he meets the girl of his dreams on the El Train in Chicago–but doesn’t get her name and number. The movie continues with his journey to find this dream girl with the help of his interesting roommates. Plus, if you don’t remember music by Mandy Moore, *NSYNC (or “in stink” as it’s goofed in the movie, lolz), or BBMak–this will take you back for sure!

She’s the Man (2006)

shes-the-man-movie-things-you-probably-never-knew

When her soccer team is cut from her high school, teen Viola dresses up as her twin brother in order to play soccer on his team at his separate school. How long can she pull off the role of being disguised as her brother though? And who loves Amanda Bynes movies?? This movie is super funny and a great comedy to watch on Valentine’s Day!

We Bought A Zoo (2011)

zoo

Widowder Benjamin Mee and his two children move to the country and buy a zoo as a way of healing and coping with life after losing their wife/mother to cancer. I think this is such a sweet movie because it deals with issues like grief, loss, parenthood, and trying to feel love again. Although this movie might be on the heavier side to watch on Valentine’s Day, I still think it’s a good one!

Happy watching!

Podcasts I’m Loving

Happy Friday! In keeping with the theme of “love” during this month, I thought I would write some posts all about different things I’m loving. Today I’m going to tell you about podcasts I’m loving and why I think you should listen to them too. Do you like to listen to podcasts? I do because they’re great to listen to on road trips, commutes, at the gym, etc, and you typically learn more from them than you do listening to the radio. All of these podcasts can be found on and downloaded (for free) from iTunes. Enjoy!

Jamie has had guests on the show such as Kathie Lee Gifford, Lauren Scruggs Kennedy, Angela Lanter, Candace Cameron Bure, Sazan Hendrix, Ellie Holcumb, Catherine Lowe, and so many amazing others!

These smell so good and are so cooling on the skin. I’ve already been trying these out and have really been enjoying them. The mist even came with a travel-sized bottle and it’s already in my purse for on-the-go. The treatment oil is good for the skin and hair and the mist can be used on the face, hair, and skin.

Juice Beauty Photo-Pigment Precision Eye Pencil: Retail $20.00

I like that this eye pencil is more of a grey shade and not black. I don’t wear eyeliner very often but when I do, it can sometimes look a little too harsh on me–so I’m looking forward to testing this out. Plus, I’m sure you know by now how much I love grey!
