Happy Valentine’s Day, friends! If you have plans to celebrate today, that’s awesome! If you don’t and today is just Tuesday, that’s awesome too! I think that days like today come with a certain amount of social stressors and a sense of loneliness and failure if nothing happens, but it doesn’t have to be that way. While today is a day set aside to show someone how much you love them, or vice versa, there are also 364 other days in the year that should serve the same purpose. This one, singular day does not define the depth of which you are loved. Your friends, family, and most importantly, Jesus loves you! I’m not trying to be “anti-Valentine’s Day” or a Negative Nancy, but I just wanted to offer you some encouragement if this Valentine’s Day is particularly difficult. I also wanted to share some scriptures with you that talk about the love of God. So if you are single, married, in a relationship, dealing with a breakup, etc, these are from my heart to yours!
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Ephesians 2:4-5 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.
Psalm 86:15 But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
John 13:34-35 A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
1 John 4:7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
1 John 4:16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
1 Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
Jeremiah 31:3 The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
Exodus 15:13 In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling.
Psalm 63:3 Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.
Psalm 86:5 You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.
I hope you can find comfort, joy, and encouragement from these verses, no matter what your plans are tonight!
