During the month of March, I’m going to be posting my thoughts and reflections during Lent. I haven’t really been consistent with focusing on Lent in the past few years, but I’m really wanting to this year and to share it with you. If you have never heard of Lent, or don’t really know what it’s about, I’ll share a little information with you as well as some other resources for Lent.
Lent is the 40 days leading up to Easter and it is meant to be a time of opening our hearts, reflecting, seeking the Lord, and being purposeful in knowing Him more. Lent is almost like celebrating Advent, in anticipation for the coming of Christ and for what He would and will one day accomplish. Lent is a time to celebrate Jesus and thank Him for what He did for us on the cross. It is also a time of confessing and repenting of sin, and turning away. And on the other end, it’s also a time for forgiving those who may have hurt or offended us and work towards healed and mended relationships. Typically, praying, fasting, and different things are given up during the time of Lent, to alleviate distractions so that the revelations and voice of God can be heard. Meditation on scripture is also practiced during this time and I’ll share some of the verses that I’ve been meditating on.
Lent is about hope. Lent is about promise. Lent is about grace. Lent is about the love of God and how much He wants us to know Him and have a relationship with him. Lent is about Jesus and His ultimate sacrifice so that we might know Him and glorify Him forever.
With that being said, here is a verse I’ve been thinking about during this first week of Lent.
Acts 3:19 NASB
“Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.”
How amazing it is to know that we can experience the presence of God! I’m excited and hopeful for what is to come! I hope and pray that this Lenten season will be one of turning away from things that might be taking place from the Lord and having those times of refreshment in my relationship with Him, in my community with others, and with myself.
