August Favorites

Hi everyone! Welcome back to another monthly favorites post, I can’t wait to share with you some of the things I have been loving this month. This year has seriously flown by and I can’t believe September is upon us. September is my FAVORITE month of the year and I would like to come up with a special way to be able to celebrate September on the blog, so hopefully stay tuned. Until then, let’s get into looking at my favorites this month.

Untitled

Present Over Perfect by Shauna Niequist. This is my current read and I am loving it so far. Shauna Niequist is one of my favorite authors and I was so happy when her newest book arrived at my house the day it was released, after I forgot that I pre-ordered it weeks ago. I love the way that Shauna writes–from life experience and from the heart. Some of my all-time favorite books are Cold Tangerines and Bittersweet and they are also authored by Shauna. Present Over Perfect has been a wonderful reminder of how to live life to the fullest, while at the same time giving grace to ourselves and to others, the flawed and imperfect beings that we are. It is totally OK to be flawed! God is good and He has given us this wonderful life to experience His goodness, if we will slow down and look. I can’t wait to keep reading this book.

Marc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Natasha Crossbody Bag. Such a find!! I went to Plato’s Closet a few weeks ago to trade in a basket full of clothes that I no longer wear. I was shocked when I saw this gorgeous, sunflower yellow crossbody just hanging off the purse rack. I looked closer and saw that it was a MARC JACOBS. I carried it around the store for probably about 30 minutes and tried to justify why I needed another purse, but just I just couldn’t. Then, I decided that if I could sell at least the amount of the purse then I would buy it. I went to the counter to find out how much money I made and it was the EXACT cost of the purse. Hallelujah!! So I got it and I have worn it about every day since. Since I wear basically only grey, black, white, and navy, this purse is the perfect pop of color.

Colors of Goodbye by September Vaudrey. I read this book at the beginning of this month and I’m not going to lie, it was a very emotional read. I heard a little about this book before but was even more drawn to it when I saw that Shauna Niequist wrote the forward and because the author’s name is September–which I love.  This book is written by September Vaudrey and it is a memoir of a tragic loss her family experienced in 2009–the loss of 19-year-old Katie Vaudrey from a brain aneurysm. I read half of this book on an airplane and I feel sorry for the woman who was sitting next to me because I had continuous tears streaming down my face. This book touched me on a few different levels, mainly because I work with families every day who experience similar losses. I was reminded of the compassion and words, or just presence, that families often need. September writes with such a raw account of what happened and how their family grieved, mourned, and tried to find a new normal following such a loss. However heartbreaking and sad, this book is also a picture of hope and that joy can be found during such a time as that. This book is also about how the Lord works through tragedy. This book was very well written and I so admire September’s example of always crying out to the Lord and leaning on Him to sustain her and her family.

The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey Podcast. My favorite podcast ever!! Jamie Ivey hosts this podcast and each week she has a phenomenal speaker join her on the show, such as Shauna Niequist, Jen Hatmaker, Lauren Chandler, Emily Freeman, Sarah Bessey, etc. I had listened to a few podcasts earlier this year but I have been listening as much as I can this month.

Stila Liquid Lipstick. I received both of these in two different Birchboxes and they are the lipsticks that I reach for the most. Both of these are very long-lasting and only require a coat or two to have great color. I may or may not have earned the nickname “Aunt Lips” when I last wore the hot pink shade.

Coldplay A Head Full of Dreams. Last week I SAW COLDPLAY LIVE. *girlish squeals* I’m still not over the experience and how much fun it was to jam out to most of the Coldplay classics and several songs on the new album. I had been listening to A Head Full of Dreams for a few weeks leading up to the concert but now it’s even more of a favorite of mine. If you ever get the chance to see them live…GO!

I hope you enjoyed reading about this month’s favorites. Let me know if there are any specific things you are loving this month, as well. Thanks for reading and dontforgettosubscribe, ok bye!!

Love from, Amy.
