In the words of the great Violet Crawley, what is a weekend? Do you ever feel like that? I hope this first weekend in February allows you some R&R and time to slow down. I really look forward to the weekend for just those reasons, and to not think about work things at all. The weekends for me are all about being off duty. I thought I would share with you the things that I like to do on my off duty weekends.
Catch up on sleep. This one is a given and I don’t think it requires much explanation.
Go on a coffee or breakfast date with a friend or family member. If you want to know about some of my favorite coffee shops, read this post. One of my favorite coffee shops lately has been 918 Coffee. Some of my favorite breakfast spots are also featured in the previous blog post but they include Old School Bagel and Chimera. If you live in Tulsa, go check them out and help support our local businesses.
Grocery shop/cooking inspo. I know this sounds lame but I actually really like going grocery shopping/food browsing on the weekends to get inspired for things I want to make in the next week.
Get outside. If the weather is nice, there’s nothing like getting some fresh air and sunshine. Go for a run, take a walk, or read a book outside. I really like walking around Utica Square on the weekends, it’s a classic location in Tulsa.
Read. Catch up on reading some of the books that have been piling up or ones that you’ve never finished. I think I’ve been doing really well lately with tackling only one book at a time, instead of starting 5 and struggling to finish any of them. If you want some ideas of what you read, take a look back at my past Summer, Fall, and Winter reading lists.
Take a day trip. There are so many different hiking locations within or just a few hours away from Tulsa, so take a little escape and go check them out! There are also a few lakes relatively close to Tulsa and they provide such a break from suburban, city living. I’m also hoping to go visit The Pioneer Woman Mercantile one of these weekends. If you’ve been there, let me know what you thought!
Go to a book store. Growing up, my siblings and I would frequent Borders or Barnes & Noble on the weekends and that interest has stuck to this day. Book stores are usually pretty quiet and seem to have an atmosphere of relaxing and taking your time.
Watch movies. Wether you decide to spend the day at the theater or just stay at home and have a movie marathon, sometimes you just need those days and I recommend them. Some of my favorite things to binge watch on the weekends are The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Austenland (HILARIOUS), The Office, Scrubs, Royal Pains, Miranda, any British mini-series, and SO many other things.
What kinds of things do you like to do when you’re off duty? I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Love from, Amy.
