Why I’m Excited About Spring

Who here is tired of the dark, gloomy, cold weather? I am for sure and I’m really looking forward to spring. Spring and fall are definitely my favorite seasons and I think that they bring such freshness, renewal, and life. Things start to bloom in the spring, marking the end of hibernation and taking refuge from the winter. It’s time to start living again.

Reasons why I’m excited about spring:

  1. Warmer weather and sunshine. I seriously can’t wait for the days to be longer, for the sun to come out, and for the weather to just be warmer and more enjoyable. I know that I don’t live in the coldest parts of the United States, but I’m just definitely over it this year, haha!
  2. That feeling in the air. You know that feeling of going outside, taking a deep breath, and thinking “spring is coming?” Yep, that’s the feeling that I want more of. That feeling is special to me because I feel like it’s instant encouragement of “things are about to get better.”
  3. More color. Spring is a time for color! I can’t wait to see flowers start to bloom and to start wearing colorful spring clothes.  I’m really into bright yellows right now and can’t wait to wear more of that.
  4. BABIES. There’s about to be a baby-boom in my family because two of my sisters, one of my cousins, and a few of my really dear friends are all about to have babies in the next few weeks and months. I can’t wait to meet and love these precious new lives!

Are you excited about spring?? What are you looking forward to the most?

February’s Bless Box was all about self-care, self-love, and all things rosy feeling. I love that the boxes each month revolve around a specific theme and that there is usually always something new to try out in each box. If you want to see what came in the February Bless Box, keep on reading! I hope you are able to treat yourself with some self-care tonight!

Ella + Mila 7-Free Nail Polish in the shade Berry Much In Love |      Retail $12.00

I like that this brand’s formula does not have the majority of harmful chemicals that most other brands do. I am finding out more and more that a great form of self-care is to keep your body as clean as possible when is comes to the things you put in and on your body. This shade is so pretty for the spring!

Maybelline Python Metalic Lip Kit | Retail $9.99

This lip kit is definitely something different from what I normally use but I think it looks fun! The kit comes with a cream lipstick shade (on the left) and then a metallic powder that you finish the look with (on the right). This would be really fun to use if you have a special night out!

True Citrus Raspberry Lemonade | Retail $9.99

HUM Nutrition Green Superfood Powder | Retail $5.00

I have tried both of these before and they are so good! I like taking the lemonade packets with me on the go and I think they are a lot healthier for you than other drink mixes. The  superfood powder is really good in smoothies and I’m excited to try this new flavor!

NuFACE Prep-N-Glow Cloths | Retail $2.00

Pur-Lisse Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum | Retail $33.00

Both of these skincare items look like they would be great for traveling! The facial cloth can fit right into my purse or travel bag and will help to eliminate having to carry around some other products. I love getting eye cream samples too because they are usually just enough for one trip and they are so compact. I’m looking forward to trying these out!

Clarins Instant Light Comfort Lip Oil in Candy | Retail $10.40

Maybelline City Mini Eyeshadow Palette | Retail $9.99

This lip oil is so nice! I’ve been testing it out for the last few days and it has really helped to hydrate my chapped lips and also give a subtle hint of color. Clarins is such a luxurious brand and it’s fun to be able to try this product. These eyeshadow palettes are also so creamy, blendable, and compact. Bless Box sent all of the newest shades in a previous box, which was awesome, so I know that this will be a great gift to someone else.

Pura Vida Bracelet | Retail $5.00

Melinda Maria Amari Mini Necklace | Retail $48.00

I love simple but unique jewelry and I was really excited to receive some new items! Pure Vida bracelets are so affordable, colorful, and come in so many styles. And how cute is this gold necklace?? I know that I’m going to get a lot of use out of this necklace.

My January & February Favorites

January was just so busy that I didn’t get a chance to post my favorites for that month. Ahh! Instead, I’m going to combine my January favorites with my February favorites and double up on the fun! Yay for you, haha! I really like doing posts like this because they’ve helped me get into the habit of intentionally looking for things to enjoy and be grateful for. Do you have anything in particular that you’ve been enjoying this month?

Vital Proteins Collagen Powder

7516805216_img_3185

I have heard a lot of things about collagen protein and how it’s good for your hair, skin, nails. I was so excited when this came in a Bless Box! Collagen protein is also a good alternative for dairy/whey-free protein. I tried mixing this with only water but wasn’t really a fan of how that tasted. However, I did mix this in with smoothies and it was much better. I did see an improvement with hair my hair, skin, and nails felt after using this!

‘Tis The Season Candle from Bath & Body Works

7516805216_img_3186

As you can see, I’ve burned this candle a lot lately! This candle is the perfect scent for transitioning out of the holidays because it smells fresh, spicy, and fruity all at the same time.

The Greatest Showman Soundtrack

I wasn’t planning on seeing this movie because it didn’t really interest me from the trailer and I didn’t want to see it just because everyone else was. However, I did go see it with my mom and youngest sister because they really wanted to see it, and you guys–it’s totally worth all the hype! I have been listening to the soundtrack so much in the last two months and you can listen to it too on Spotify. This cast is so musically talented and the songs are super catchy. I think that this movie could easily be a classic for years to come.

Eye Cream & Hand Cream

7516805216_img_3191

I have been using this eye cream the last two months (I received it in a subscription box but can’t remember which one it was, oops!) and it’s been great for the mornings when my eyes feel dark and puffy. The applicator is a flat metal tip and so it’s already cooling to the skin when you use it. I have also been using my trusty L’Occitane hand cream because it’s been so cold and my hands have been so dry. I really like the citrus scent of this hand cream and also that it’s now made in a gel format and absorbs quicker.

L’Oreal Paris Purify & Unclog Pure-Sugar Scrub

7516805216_img_3188

This face scrub has been fun to use because it’s like scrubbing a kiwi on your face, haha! I needed something gentle to help exfoliate dry skin and this has been a great product. It almost starts to self-heat once you begin using it. I have heard good things, also, about these new L’Oreal face scrubs/masks and I’m impressed with how affordable they are.

Wen Winter Cranberry Mind Replenishing Treatment Mist

7516805216_img_3189

I talked about this treatment mist in a Bless Box post and I’ve still been enjoying it! This mist is so cooling and refreshing on the skin. I have noticed that my skin looks much more hydrated after using this. Plus, the scent is also really nice!

Oversized Oblong Scarf & Loft Click Bracelet

7516805216_img_3182

I love canary yellow. A lot. Aside from my typical black, white, navy, and grey–this is my spirit color. I found this scarf at Target for $5 and knew it was a good investment purchase. This scarf is so soft and I have just enjoyed wearing it. I’m going to Maine in a few weeks and this will definitely be coming with me. Another thing I have been wearing a lot is this marble click bracelet from Loft. I tried to find a similar one to it to link and just wasn’t able to find one, sorry! One of my sisters gifted this to me a few years ago for my birthday and it’s been a great staple piece of jewelry for me because of the gold, grey, and white.

February Birchbox

Here we are again for another Birchbox un-boxing! I hope that you like these posts and enjoy seeing what could come inside your own Birchbox each month. Are you a subscriber of Birchbox? Here are the things that I received in the February box.

Love Beauty and Planet Smooth and Serene Argan Oil & Lavender Shampoo & Conditioner

Each of these can be purchased for $9.00 and I even saw them in Target this week. I think this is a super affordable brand and this sample size will be great for traveling.

Sunday Riley Good Genes All-in-One Lactic Acid Treatment

It’s always fun to receive samples for things that I usually can’t afford. The full-size bottle of this product retails for over $100. I’ve been a fan of lactic acid treatments for the past few years–it’s a great ingredient for acne-prone skin.

The Beauty Crop Wing Woman Liquid Eyeliner

I swatched this on my hand when I opened it and it seems like it will last a long time on the skin. I don’t wear eyeliner much, but this would be a great one for me to test.

DOUCCE Luscious Lip Stain

This looks like it’ll be a great color to wear during the spring months! The consistency of this lip stain is also definitely more on the watery side and less chalky/drying than some liquid lipsticks can be.

Spring 2017 Empties

The other day I was doing some Spring cleaning and trying to think of some new blog post ideas for the next few weeks. I pulled everything out from under my bed and saw a full box of empties. Voila! Today I’m going to walk you through all of the products that I have used in the last few months and my thoughts on them. There are a few things that I did not finish because they just didn’t work for me, but thankfully my mom and sisters are always willing to try new products. I’ve broken these products into categories because it makes it a more organized to review.

Makeup

Processed with VSCO with t1 preset

It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream Illumination. I think this is my third bottle that I’ve purchased and it’s my current favorite and the only foundation I use these days. A tube will last me about a month and a half and if you cut the top off with scissors, you can get a few more days wear out of it. This has a high coverage but also dewy, illuminous finish. And it smells like lemon which is nice to have a product that doesn’t smell overly perfumed.

Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain in New York Scene. This was a nice, glossy lip stain that lasted a long time. I have had this particular one for quite a while though so I thought it was best to probably throw it away at this point.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Rose. This was a sample size that I received in a BirchBox and I loved it. This lip treatment was super hydrating and had a nice tint.

L’Oreal True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator. I really wanted to like this product because I love illuminators, but sadly I just didn’t. This finish was very patchy on my skin and just would not blend out. I tried it a few different ways but in the end it just wasn’t the match for me.

Benefit Cosmetics Dew The Hoola Matte Liquid Bronzer. This was another BirchBox sample that I received a few months ago. I really liked the finish of this product but it was a little too orange for my skin tone.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick. Ok, so I talked about this in a favorites post a few months ago but I think I’ve changed my mind about how I feel about this product. After several uses, I noticed that it really dried out and cracked my lips. I just found an awesome dupe for this product though from ColourPop.

3D Fiber Mascara. I don’t even remember what brand this is or where I got it but I had the WORST reaction. One day my entire right eyeball was solid red and pretty painful by the end of the day, so I will not use this again.

The BrowGal Eyebrow Gel. I just finished this up and I received it in a FabFitFun box. I really liked this product and it helped to hold all of my stray eyebrow hairs in place for the whole day. The price point is a little high for me to repurchase it, but I did find a dupe for it this week–Ardell Brow Sculpting Gel and I bought mine at Sally Beauty.

Moisturizer & Serum

H20 Plus Oasis Quench the Day Hydrating Mist. I found bottles of this at TJMaxx for $3.99 so I stocked up a few. I have been loving this product to apply before and after putting on makeup. I have one more bottle left from my stockpile so I’m trying to make it last.

Retinol Serum. I have been using a basic retinol serum the last several months and it’s really improved the texture and scarring that was caused by acne. I don’t have a specific brand that I use, just whatever is at TJMaxx or on Amazon for the best price.

Skin Laundry Brightening Serum. This was another FabFitFun product and while it really did help to brighten my skin, it wasn’t worth it to me to repurchase it.

Hyalauronic Acid Serum. This is another general product that I used a lot during the winter months. It really helped to pack in extra hyrdation and to prevent my skin from burning after using some other products that were a little harsher.

OSEA Atmosphere Protection Cream. This came in my first FabFitFun box and I liked it so much, and it did wonders to my skin, that I purchased it after being done with the sample bottle. However, I don’t know if my skin built up a tolerance to something but it just didn’t seem to do the orignal job once I was almost done with my second bottle. It is all natural, which I love, but it might be one of those things that I buy once a year and use it even more sparingly.

Vitamin C Serum. Another general product I’ve been using for a while. Vitamin C serum has helped a lot to treat redness, scar pigmentation, and to help my skin look much more even.

Makeup Remover

Burt’s Bees Facial Cleansing Towelettes in Pink Grapefruit. I used this packet for trips to the gym or weekend trips and they smell so nice. The grapefruit also helps to brighten the skin.

Watermelon Makeup Remover Wipes. I found these at TJMaxx for half the price of the Burt’s Bees ones and you get so much more in these packets. The scent was really fun and fruity and the product was just as effective.

Face Mask

Andalou Naturals 1000 Roses Rosewater Mask. This is another product that I really wanted to love because one of my friends really likes it. However, I might be allergic to rosewater because there was something in it that made me break out.

Pilaten Black Mud Face Mask. I bought this a long time ago before everyone started making YouTube videos of how painful this mask was to remove–but they weren’t kidding. You have to put on a pretty thick layer for it to not hurt as much and it takes about 45 minutes to dry. But boy does it do the job! I don’t know if this was a “fun” mask to use but it is definitely a good one to use on occasion.

Formula 10.0.6 Pores Be Pure Skin-Clarifying Mask. I love this brand of masks and there’s often a sale going on at Ulta. This mask smells like chocolate-covered strawberries and it is very gentle. This mask definitely wasn’t as powerful as the black mud mask but I really enjoyed using this product and will definitely buy it again.

Good Things Manuka Honey Radiance Face Mask. This was another TJMaxx find and it was only a few dollars. I really liked this mask and the honey worked really well to brighten my skin. If I can find this again for a good price, I might repurchase it.

Face Wash & Scrub

Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser. This product was a gift to me from one of my sweet friends. I really enjoyed using this wash because it has a warming effect to help cleanse deeper than a regular face wash. This wash also smells like hot tea, which is so soothing.

Malin+Goetz Grapefruit Face Cleanser. This was a BirchBox sample and I used this on a trip a few months ago. I can’t remember where I was going but I do remember that this product was super refreshing and smelled amazing.

Nuxe Reve de Miel Facial Cleansing and Makeup Removing Gel. Another reason to love Birchbox! This product was apparently discontinued but it was really nice while I had the chance to try it. I think I took this on a trip as well and it worked really well to remove makeup. This gel also smelled like ginger so I felt like my skin had some zing back after cleansing.

Good Things Deep Clean Scrub. This was a great facial scrub to use because it was very gentle but effective. I can’t seem to find this online but I did buy it at TJMaxx several months ago.

Origins Modern Friction Nature’s Gentle Dermabrasion. Yet again, thanks BirchBox! This was a really nice microdermabrasion scrub that was also gentle. My skin felt even and smooth after using it and it didn’t seem to burn or overly dry out my skin.

Haircare

OGX Anti-Gravity+Hydration o2 Shampoo. This shampoo smelled really fresh but I think that my hair just doesn’t respond well to hydrating shampoos like it used to. I probably won’t buy this again just because my hair was really oily by the end of the day.

Desert Essence Italian Lemon Shampoo. An amazing natural clarifying shampoo! I bought this at Sprouts during a BOGO sale, I’m currently using a Raspberry one, and it was so worth it. Plus it smells like gelato!

Batiste Dry Shampoo. I love this dry shampoo and I’ll keep buying it. I have found it for less, though, at Walmart or TJMaxx. I tried a few new scents over the last few months and I liked all of them except the “Neon” scent. I don’t know what it was but I just did not enjoy it at all. This product does give out a white-cast but the Blonde or Brunette ones are great to blend in to other hair colors.

Dove Detox and Purify Dry Shampoo. I tried to find a dry shampoo that was less than Batiste but, even though this one is, it didn’t do anything for me except maybe make my hair greasier. Although there was no white-cast with this product, I think it was just a little too wet for my hair texture.

Big Sexy Hair Dry Shampoo. This was probably the worst dry shampoo I’ve ever used so far because it just made my hair so greasy and sticky. Sorry if that’s gross. I did get this through for only about $5.00 so I wasn’t out a lot of money for not being able to finish it. If you have thick hair, maybe this would work for you.

Whew, that was a lot of products! What have you been using in the last few months and what are your thoughts?
