Welcome to My House: The Living Room

Here it is–my first home blog post! It’s taken me a while to be ready to post a “before and after” post, but I wanted to make sure it was just right. I moved into my new house in May and have had so much fun making the place mine and putting my finishing touches on the house. It’s been a lot of hard work but I am loving being a homeowner! Today’s post is going to be all about the living room–a room that has been the central focus since moving in and having people gather. Welcome to my living room!

Before

Living Room Before

This room was a little dark and cave-like, but had such a gorgeous window with a deep windowsill. I knew that I wanted to brighten up this room and paint it a lighter color–as having bright space was one of the most important design elements to me. I love the hardwood floors and knew I definitely wanted to keep them because they were in such good condition. Other than painting and interior design, there was not much else that this room needed.

After

Living Room After

Tadaaaaaa! I love this room so much and I’m so happy with the way it turned out. I have had so many movie nights in here and it’s just been so cozy and relaxing. A lot of this furniture I already had but I will tell you about the new pieces and where you can get them, if interested. The walls were painted a very light grey–I wanted a light color but didn’t want just flat white all over. I think the grey works so well and is such a great neutral background for my style.

Living Room After

The white upholstered chairs were my grandmother’s and were originally pink, striped silk. My mother worked tirelessly to make new cushions for me and paint the fabric with a fabric medium. The finished texture is a little bit linen-like and turned out so much better than we had thought it would. The couch was purchased from a coworker who was looking to sell–I couldn’t find this couch online but I think it is a Pottery Barn couch. It is such a deep couch and has been the central place to hang out in this room.

Living Room AfterThe coffee table is from Amazon (as are a lot of things in this house because it was so much easier than hunting for items) and was so easy to assemble. It’s pretty sturdy as well and I just love the faux marble laminate.

The curtains in the front window were also my grandmother’s. It has been so special for me to have pieces of her home now in my home, after she passed away this year. She had immaculate taste and style and I’m so glad that I have incorporated them into my style, as well.

Living Room After

The rug is from Rugs USA and I purchased it over Memorial Day during a sale. I can’t find the link to the exact rug anymore but there are so many interesting and colorful designs on the site. I believe this rug is an 8’x10′ in dimension.

Living Room After

The lamp is another Amazon find and I think it adds a nice touch of texture and a unique design element to the room. The lamp was easy to assemble and acts as my main light source in the evenings, since I don’t have overhead lighting in the room.

Living Room After

I had this side table already but knew I wanted to add some unique knobs, to blend in with the design aspects. I found this gemstone knob at World Market and knew it was the perfect one for this room.

Living Room After

My mother was so wonderful to make some of the couch pillows for me, and I bought a few others from TJMaxx. I love that these pillows are all velvet-y and they will be super cozy for the cold months ahead.

I hope you have enjoyed the first post of my home reveal–stay tuned for more coming soon!

Fall Fashion Pin-Spiration: Use Pinterest to Help You Find Your Fall Style

It’s September again! My birthday month, the beginning of fall, and (hopefully) the promise of cooler weather ahead. I love all things fall–the weather, colors, fashion, scents, and flavors. However, I do not approve of Starbucks launching PSLs in August. I’m not even really a fan of pumpkin spice flavored things, but if you are–I forbid you from eating/drinking anything pumpkin spice until at least October 1st. Ok, not forbid but I just can’t get behind it yet when it’s still 100 degrees in Oklahoma.

Enough rambling, Amy.

I really look forward to fall fashion/style and usually can’t wait to pull out my cardigans, sweaters, and comfy layers. One tool that I use a lot, to find specific looks at the beginning of a season, is Pinterest. You can type in a style or piece that you’re looking for and so many visual results appear and provide inspiration–or “Pin-spiration” as I like to call it, haha!

Today I’m sharing with you some of my fall “Pin-spiration” and some styles that I’m really into this season.

LONG CARDIGANS

Cardigans are my ESSENTIALS in the fall. They are so easy to throw on with jeans, work wear, dresses/skirts, and they are so comfy. I love wearing long cardigans when traveling as well because it’s almost like you’re wearing a warm blanket.

BOOTS

I used to wear only riding boots in the fall but I’ve been really into ankle boots the last couple of years. Ankle boots are another item that can easily be paired with so many things and looks. Chelsea boots and boots with detail are my favorite looks.

JEWEL TONE COLORS

I typically wear exclusively black, grey, navy, and other neutral colors but in the fall I feel more adventurous with wearing color. I love deep blue, red, green, yellow, or any other jewel tone color in the colder months. I have a mustard yellow scarf in my closet that I can’t wait to wear.

COATS

I think that Kate Middleton has had a huge influence with fashion coat trends and I’m all for it. Coats are now made in so many colors, textures, and are way more stylish than puffer/ski coats. I think a coat is a great way to finish an outfit/look and it also keeps you staying warm in style!

My Home Interiors Inspiration

The last two months I have been in full house-mode. From repairs, painting, yard work, decorating, moving, cleaning, maintaining, etc–it’s all been happening over here! The part about buying a home that I was the most excited about was being able to decorate and make it mine.

Throughout this process, I’ve had friends and family ask me what my home style was but I haven’t had a good answer yet. While my clothing style might be primarily black upon black, I think that I’m a little more adventurous and colorful when it comes to my house. I love interior design and there are a few styles that I really like to incorporate into spaces. I’m now calling my home style “Euro-Neutral-Eclectic” and here are some of the themes that helped inspire my home decorating.

Mediterranean

  • Bright accents
  • European elements

Coastal

  • Calm tone
  • Oceanic characteristics
  • Vacation home vibes

Modern

  • Clean lines
  • Minimalistic
  • Mixture of fabrics and structural materials

Eclectic

  • Bold colors
  • Mixture of non-coordinating textures and patterns

SheIn Haul: Is it Worth the Hype?

**This post contains affiliate links. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**

If you’re on any form of social media, I’m sure you’ve seen advertisements for SheIn. I heard about SheIn several months ago but didn’t think it would be worth purchasing anything from the site. However, the more I heard about it and saw other bloggers posting about their purchases–I wanted to give it a try. SheIn has SO many items in the way of fashion, shoes, accessories, home, men’s clothing, and children’s clothing. There is also such an array of pricing and almost everything I’ve seen is very affordable.

There are a few things you will probably want to know before ordering, and then I’ll show you the items I purchased. First, not all sizing is consistent with normal sizing. Make sure you look at the sizing measurements before you purchase them. Secondly, there are free shipping and returns on orders you spend a certain amount. I love it especially when sites have free returns. Thirdly, there are coupons available for your first purchase, if you sign up through email, and even cash back options if you have an Ebates account. And fourthly, the company warehouse is overseas, so it may take a week or so before your shipment arrives.

Let’s dive into the haul!

I was wanting a few casual items for summer and also a couple of swimsuit options, and those were things I specifically looked for. Although there were way more things I really wanted to try on, I kept it to just a few, haha!

I love the texture of this sweater! Yes, I know I bought a sweater in the summer–but I thought it was cute and it would be a nice layering piece for by the pool, or something. Even though it’s been close to, or over, 100 degrees in Oklahoma, I still seem to get cold. Plus, this will be a really nice piece to wear in the fall. I bought this in a size Medium. I will be keeping this item.

How cute is this! One-piece swimsuits have really come a long way. I bought this in a size Medium and love how this looks with a little bit of a tan. I will be keeping this item.

This two-piece is also super adorable and each piece has the perfect amount of coverage. This is a size Medium and I will be keeping this item.

I really wanted some casual t-shirts to wear that weren’t plain grey…because let me tell you–I have way more grey shirts than I need. I love how comfy and soft this shirt is and that it’s loose fitting. This is in a Medium and I will be keeping it. And yes, Sundays are more than good for the soul.

0d7131b8-aee4-4597-92c5-85deee280dca

This is the item that I am MOST excited about. If you know me then you’ll know that sometimes I randomly say “bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica” for no reason. Who else can’t get enough of The Office?? This shirt is also super comfy, a little over-sized, and comes in a bunch of different colors. This is a size Medium and of course I’m keeping it.

So my thoughts all in all? Yes, SheIn is definitely worth the hype and I recommend that you order from there if you’re needing some items for your wardrobe. I might just have to order a few things when fall comes around…

Airport Outfit Go-Tos

People watching is one of my favorite things to do at the airport because you get to hear where people are coming from/going to, hear different accents, and observe a variety of airport clothing styles. I’ve seen some looks that I will remember, for sure! When it comes to traveling, making sure I’m comfortable in the clothes I’m wearing is a must. I tend to wear the same things on travel days so there’s not a whole lot of variety (or color for that matter, haha!) but here are some of my go-to looks for travel days. I haven’t linked these items in this post because some of them are old or I’ve already mentioned them–but these pieces can be found in so many similar brands that it should be super easy to duplicate these looks.

If you’ve known me for a while then you know I just really like to wear black. No, I don’t have a dark soul but I do think that black is classy and can go with pretty much anything. Also, I occasionally spill things during flights and so it’s nice to wear things that don’t show stains, haha! I think that an all black outfit is really easy to throw on if you’re rushing around. A printed sneaker is also really cute with an all black outfit!

I really like this olive jacket because it’s still a neutral color and can go with so many things, while still adding in a little bit of color. This sweater has also been so many places with me and I love how it’s oversized and soft. Throw these two things on with a pair of jeans or skinny pants and it’s a great go-to outfit. I also like these shoes because they are so easy to put on and off, especially for going through security.

Leggings are the best for traveling because they are so soft and comfortable. I also think you can get away with wearing them as long as you have a long shirt or jacket to go with them. I think that a hoodie, a grey t-shirt, and leggings are a great combination for so many types of travel.
