Summer Beauty Favorites

Welcome back to Love from Amy! If you are new to this blog–welcome and I hope you come back again. If you have been following my blog for a while–welcome back and thank you for your support! Summer seems to be flying by and August is just around the corner. This summer seems to have been a little milder for me than previous years (definitely not in the Oklahoma temperature aspect) because I have not been traveling as much. However, this weekend I will be able to take a few days off work and spend time with several of my family members (maybe even get in some pool time) and have a mini “staycation.”

There are a few summer beauty items that I’ve been using in the last couple of months and I thought I would share those today on the blog.

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation. I have been loving this foundation this summer and I think it’s very similar to the ItCosmetics CC Cream. The coverage is medium but it has such a glowy finish. I haven’t been able to be in the sun much but this foundation helps me to look like I have.

L’Oreal True Match Lumi Glotion Natural Glow Enhancer. This is a great product to use as a base before foundation, or simply just by itself. If you apply this with a foundation, it just helps to amp up the finish of your foundation. But if you wear it alone, it just helps your skin to look a little more refreshed and hydrated.

L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Waterproof Mascara. I promise this post is not sponsored by L’Oreal but they have come out with some really amazing products lately. This mascara has held up so well in the heat and it gives such a natural looking amount of volume to your eye lashes.

Simple Water Boost Sleeping Cream. I like to use gel moisturizers in the summer, if possible, because they seem to have such a nice cooling effect. I’ve really enjoyed using this sleeping cream before I go to bed, and it leaves my skin feeling very hydrated the next morning.

Jergens Natural Glow Healthy Complexion Daily Facial Moisturizer. This self-tanning face moisturizer has been a favorite of mine for a few years and I think I’ve probably mentioned it on the blog before. I like that this product doesn’t break my skin out and doesn’t make my face look orange.

Jergens Natural Glow Wet Skin Moisturizer. This moisturizer has been so easy to use when it comes to self-tanning. All you do is apply it while you are still in the shower–but don’t rinse it off–and then gently dry with a towel. I used this incorrectly twice by drying off a little first and then applying it–but I was stripe-zilla both times. Just apply this while your skin is still wet and the result is a gradual, glowy tan.

E.L.F. Cosmetics Shimmer Highlighting Powder. This highlighter is so pretty and perfect for summer. The finish is more subtle than other highlighters I’ve tried but I think it still looks really natural on the skin.

SheIn Haul: Is it Worth the Hype?

**This post contains affiliate links. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**

If you’re on any form of social media, I’m sure you’ve seen advertisements for SheIn. I heard about SheIn several months ago but didn’t think it would be worth purchasing anything from the site. However, the more I heard about it and saw other bloggers posting about their purchases–I wanted to give it a try. SheIn has SO many items in the way of fashion, shoes, accessories, home, men’s clothing, and children’s clothing. There is also such an array of pricing and almost everything I’ve seen is very affordable.

There are a few things you will probably want to know before ordering, and then I’ll show you the items I purchased. First, not all sizing is consistent with normal sizing. Make sure you look at the sizing measurements before you purchase them. Secondly, there are free shipping and returns on orders you spend a certain amount. I love it especially when sites have free returns. Thirdly, there are coupons available for your first purchase, if you sign up through email, and even cash back options if you have an Ebates account. And fourthly, the company warehouse is overseas, so it may take a week or so before your shipment arrives.

Let’s dive into the haul!

I was wanting a few casual items for summer and also a couple of swimsuit options, and those were things I specifically looked for. Although there were way more things I really wanted to try on, I kept it to just a few, haha!

I love the texture of this sweater! Yes, I know I bought a sweater in the summer–but I thought it was cute and it would be a nice layering piece for by the pool, or something. Even though it’s been close to, or over, 100 degrees in Oklahoma, I still seem to get cold. Plus, this will be a really nice piece to wear in the fall. I bought this in a size Medium. I will be keeping this item.

How cute is this! One-piece swimsuits have really come a long way. I bought this in a size Medium and love how this looks with a little bit of a tan. I will be keeping this item.

This two-piece is also super adorable and each piece has the perfect amount of coverage. This is a size Medium and I will be keeping this item.

I really wanted some casual t-shirts to wear that weren’t plain grey…because let me tell you–I have way more grey shirts than I need. I love how comfy and soft this shirt is and that it’s loose fitting. This is in a Medium and I will be keeping it. And yes, Sundays are more than good for the soul.

0d7131b8-aee4-4597-92c5-85deee280dca

This is the item that I am MOST excited about. If you know me then you’ll know that sometimes I randomly say “bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica” for no reason. Who else can’t get enough of The Office?? This shirt is also super comfy, a little over-sized, and comes in a bunch of different colors. This is a size Medium and of course I’m keeping it.

So my thoughts all in all? Yes, SheIn is definitely worth the hype and I recommend that you order from there if you’re needing some items for your wardrobe. I might just have to order a few things when fall comes around…

My Summer Reads

For as long as I can remember, summer has always been associated with reading. When I was a little kid, my siblings and I would all do the summer reading program at our local library–and sometimes we would even try to race each other as to who would finish the quickest. The librarian must have thought that we were some of the most well-read children with how competitive we would be, haha! (What the library didn’t know, though, was that sometimes we read a bunch of kids board books and books that were honestly too easy for us to read–oopsies)

This summer, there are a few books that I really want to read and, like always, I’m going to try my best to have these read by the end of summer.

Everyone Brave is Forgiven by Chris Cleave

e8715ba1-9d04-4b31-b2f0-ae7d81005f43

This novel is set in London during 1939–1942. It was inspired by the letters written between the author’s grandparents during World War II. This novel focuses around the stories of three characters and it is written “with dazzling prose, sharp English wit, and compassion…a powerful portrait of war’s effects on those who fight and those left behind” (People, Book of the Week).

Living Well Spending Less: 12 Secrets of the Good Life by Ruth Soukup

fdecbb88-042c-4b50-bb77-a4a962b2c3fd

After going through the home-buying process, this book is especially appealing to me! I’m excited to learn more about life, organizing, finances, etc., from a Biblical perspective.

Safe People: How to Find Relationships That Are Good For You and Avoid Those That Aren’t By Henry Cloud and John Townsend

2dadd0e5-7e5f-4ad5-9339-dc9d1b73dc39I heard about this book a couple of years ago and really wanted to read it. Based on the title, I think that this is a really important lesson to learn when it comes to relationships in your personal life, social life, and work life. This book will help to identify those who aren’t relationally trustworthy and also those who are relationally safe.

At Home in the World: Reflections on Belonging While Wandering the Globe by Tsh Oxenreider

This book seems to be right up my alley. A book about adventure, traveling, and making it meaningful? Yes please!!

What are you reading this summer? Do you have any recommendations for my fall reading list?

Empties #7

It’s that time again–welcome to another Empties post! I’ve saved the bottles of all the beauty and skin care products I’ve used, over the last few months, and I’m going to give you my honest review of them. I really enjoy reading about what other people have used, and what they thought, because I always like trying new things. Let me know if you’ve used any of these and if you loved/hated them!

Makeup

Revlon Lash Potion Mascara. This formula is supposed to help your lashes grow longer but I didn’t notice any remarkable difference. I think the brush was also a little too big for my eyes and I never really used this mascara that much. I think the product had expired by the time I cleaned out this time.

Cover Girl LashBlast Mascara. This mascara is an awesome product to use, especially in waterproof. The formula helps you lashes to stay curled and the waterproof formula is very long-lasting.

ELF Poreless Face Primer. I have used a bottle of this primer before but did not have the same outcome as my previous experience. After I would apply my foundation, over the primer, the primer seemed to pill up and leave little grey dots all over my face. Because of that reaction, I’m not sure if I would buy this primer again. The Radiant Glow primer did the same thing on my skin, but I did like the luminosity that this product gave.

L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara. I think I am allergic to this formula because it made my eyes super red, itchy, and burn. I probably won’t buy this product again but I did notice a difference in my eyelash length.

L’Oreal Colour Riche Balm. This is one of the only lip products I ever remember finishing completely. This lipstick was more of a light moisturizer than an actual lipstick, and the pigmentation was very subtle. I will probably buy this again in the future.

Bare Minerals Prep Step Moisture Set. I found this at TJ Maxx this summer and really enjoyed it. The product left a pearlescent finish on the skin but also hydrated very nicely.

NYC Sun ‘n’ Bronze Bronzer. This bronzer is so affordable and it’s probably one of my all-time favorites. This product does not look muddy on my face and is not too shiny.

 Skin Care

Daiso Japan Charcoal Cleansing Foam. I bought this at Daiso, in Dallas, for $1.50 just for the mere fact that it was dirt cheap. Haha. I don’t know if I noticed a huge difference from using this product but, hey, for $1.50 I’ll try anything.

Retinol Gel Cleanser. I usually get this at TJ Maxx, for much cheaper, and it really helps to keep my cystic acne under control. I will keep buying this for sure and using it at night.

Andalou Glycolic Pumpkin Mask. I usually wait for this to go on sale at Sprouts or Whole Foods before I purchase it. I have used this a few times before and really like how it makes my skin look and feel. Glycolic products are also another thing that help to keep my acne under control, and I like that this product is all natural.

H20 Plus Face Oasis. I also found this at TJ Maxx, for a lot less, and used it during the colder months. The blue, gel-like product felt very hydrating and like a drink of water for my skin. If I can find this again, I would most likely re-purchase it.

Dr. Brandt Micodermabrasion Skin Exfoliant. I received this product in one of my subscription boxes and while it was a finely milled, gentle exfoliant, yikes–that price tag though. I will not re-purchase it again for that reason alone, but it was a nice treat to test this product.

ArtNaturals Serums. I really like ArtNatural products and will keep using them, when I can. I bought the Retinol and Vitamin C serums in a bundle and have been using them for a couple of years now. When used together, retinol and vitamin C are amazing for healing my problematic skin.

Body

Bath & Body Works Dark Kiss Body Wash. This scent is now retired–boo! This product has a very subtle scent of berry and musk and you have no need to wear perfume after using this.

Tone Radiant Glow Illuminating Body Wash. This was a fun product to use because it has sparkle in it and leaves your skin, literally, glowing.

Primal Pit Paste All Natural Lavender Deodorant. This is my absolute favorite deodorant to use. It’s on the pricier side but it is all natural and doesn’t make me break out in painful rashes. One your body adjusts to this deodorant, it controls everything you need it to control. I have bought this at Whole Foods and on Amazon in the past.

Hair

Garnier Volume Anti-Frizz Hairspray. This is my favorite hairspray to use because it holds for a long time and it protects against humidity.

Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray. This heat spray’s scent is really nice and is my favorite part of the product. I use this off and on before drying my hair, or using heat tools, and it helps to protect from heat damage and gives my hair healthy shine.

Desert Essence Organic Red Raspberry Shampoo. I bought this during a BOGO sale a few months ago and even though the scent was nice, it did dry my hair out a little too much.

My Experience with ThredUp

If you’re like me, you have probably seen commercials, adverts, etc., about ThredUp on social media. I am all about trading in clothes for some cash or credit, when it’s time to purge my closet, and I wanted to give ThredUp a try, this time around. Today I’m going to share with you all about my experience using ThredUp and show you some of the things I purchased with my credit.

The first thing you should do is clean out your closet and make a pile of things you want to sell or donate. Next, go to the ThredUp website to order a “Clean Out Kit.” ThredUp will then send you a clean out bag, with postage, and instructions of how to send in your clothes.

Once you fill up the clean out bag, drop the bag off at your nearest FedEx or USPS location and it’ll be on it’s way.

The items that ThredUp may not be able to sell, they will then donate the remaining items on their end. I love that because I don’t have to go to several drop off sites to donate my clothes.

Of the clothing items that you send in, ThredUp will notify you each time something of yours sells on their site. You will receive an amount of credit from the things you sell and you can use it toward a consignment purchase on their website. You will also be charged a small free once your clean out bag is processed, so just keep that in mind. I think it took about 6 weeks for my clean out bag to be processed, because of the high demand. Overall, the process of sending in clothing, shoes, and some jewelry, was very easy and I didn’t mind the wait. ThredUp will also send you an email with the status of your bag so that you can keep checking to see when it will be processed.

Once a few of my items sold and I had some credit on my account, it was time to look for some things I need this fall! I think I received my order within just a few days of ordering, so that was great! You have the option of trying on the clothes and then returning them if they don’t work out, but, again, you will be charged a small fee.

A black and grey sweater? My favorite! (Not even joking) I found this sweater from Loft and really liked the damask print.

I have been wanting a pair of leather pants for a couple of years now but could never find any that I liked. I found this brand new pair, with tags still attached, from Free People for about eighty percent off. What a bargain!

You wanna know what’s crazier than me wearing leather pants, it’s me wearing something pink! This sweater is also from Loft and I think it’ll be a great addition to my fall wardrobe. I love the sleeves on this sweater and the fact that it’s loose and tunic-style.

Including the small amount of credit I made, I purchased these three items for less than $30! I’m really happy with my ThredUp experience and I know that I’ll buy clothes through them again. I would love to hear from you if you have ever traded in/bought clothed through ThredUp and what your experience was like!
